February 10, 2022 – Basic marka provider of automotive software solutions for businesses, recently announced that it has implemented its augmented reality (AR) applications for the BMW Groupthe first being its “AR over-video” application, which is now available in some of the latest models of BMW vehicles.
According to Basemark, his work has resulted in cutting-edge AR applications for new BMW iX electric vehicles that use vehicle sensor data and computer vision functionality. Combined, these features allow AR-enhanced information to be displayed on the car’s central information display when navigation is activated.
Center information displays powered by augmented reality help drivers interact with the vehicle and can improve perception of the environment. For example, augmented reality can help make navigation while driving easier, safer and more accurate by displaying upcoming turning maneuvers and lane recommendations to drivers directly on the vehicle’s central information display.
The BMW iX’s front-facing camera automatically sends live images to the curved touchscreen, where interactive arrows are then overlaid to show drivers exactly where to go. Plus, with the vehicle’s split-screen functionality, the map remains visible, providing an overview of navigation.
Basemark added that its AR features can also be used to help improve the parking experience in densely populated urban environments. For example, AR can help guide drivers to available parking spots, inform about parking limits and rates, and increase drivers’ spatial awareness while parking.
“BMW Group’s augmented reality apps are setting a new standard for driving experience, comfort and safety. We are delighted that Basemark’s automotive software know-how has resulted in AR implementations that meet BMW Group concept and asset requirements with high technical feasibility and high performance. said Tero Sarkkinen, CEO and Founder of Basemark. He added, “We also collaborated to improve the BMW Group’s asset creation and delivery process, empowering both designers and developers, resulting in reduced development time. The work also included providing support for concept exploration and development of AR concept feature simulations. »
