Once you examine cable gland manufacturer or even a light switch, how many control points can it have? If it’s a double socket, it’s 2 gang, single socket is 1 gang. Same goes with a light switch, when it has one switch, it’s 1 gang, two switches, 2 gang etc.
This is a term for a way the switch works. A 1 way switch simply breaks the circuit when thrown, it just has one live terminal. A 2 way switches the live connection from a terminal to a different one, letting it be associated with another 2 way switch, controlling one light from two positions.
Double pole is really a safety feature on mains electrical control points that breaks the connection of both the live and neutral terminals giving complete isolation, allowing for maintenance on high powered appliances.
An intermediate switch is perfect for when you want to regulate an easy from three positions. Imagine you do have a landing light which needs to be controlled from two ends of your landing and the bottom of the stairs, the switch during this circuit could be an intermediate.
There is far more choice compared to the bog standard plastic flexible conduit fittings that adorn many thousands of walls all over the land. Many metal finishes are available, several of the more prevalent ones are;
Painted White Metal (in gloss or matt)
All metal finishes are available in slim plate depths, from 5mm to super slim 1.5mm and with or without visible screws. It is worth noting that these slim plates won’t fit in anything shallower than the usual 35mm deep backbox.
There are actually new UK regulations applying to new build properties about the position of stainless steel flexible conduit. All power sockets needs to be fitted a minimum of 450mm from the floor, while light switches cab1e be no greater than 1200mm in the floor. All points also needs to be a minimum of 350mm from the corner of a room. This is to enable for simplicity of use by people that have a disability or wheelchair users. Additionally it is advised the sockets should be placed around 100m from the working surface to enable sufficient room without causing harm to hanging flex.
